Detrol LA:
Detrol LA (tolteradine)
is a medication designed
to help control overactive bladder symptoms and urinary
incontinence. The medication is generally very effective
with few side effects. However, the medication must be
combined with additional behavioral type treatments, as directed by
the urologist. Otherwise, the effectiveness of the
medication will be reduced significantly.
Failure ... to thoroughly educate
patients concerning ... Detrol is a common cause of ineffective
treatment.
Failure on the part
of physicians and nurses to thoroughly educate patients
concerning the required dietary, exercise and behavioral changes
necessary for the proper use of Detrol commonly results in ineffective treatment. Detrol is not useful for the
treatment of pure stress urinary incontinence.
All medications have
potential side effects and some medications should not be taken
with other medications or should not be taken with certain
medical conditions. Detrol should not be used in patients
with uncontrolled narrow angle glaucoma and certain other
conditions. Detrol should be used with caution in patients
with gastroesophageal reflux.
